October 14 – 20
The festival coincides with the celebration of the patron saint’s day of the church in the village of Pryazha, the day of the Protection of the Holy Virgin. The festival is held in two parts, instrumental and choral. Solo instrumental performers and instrumental ensembles; amateur, school and professional choirs and ensembles; church choirs; and solo vocalists are all invited to take part in this festival, which is a significant event in the spiritual world. It may prove to be very magnificent and touching for those who have planned to take a spiritual journey north.
This festival is for all those interested in the ancestral traditions and customs of the Karelians and their national culture.
The participants present their families, prepare a traditional Karelian dish to be evaluated by jury, and explain the recipe and the secrets of its preparation. They also prepare an item of artistic craft, present an artistic performance (in Karelian, of course), and play a traditional Karelian game.
Spectators also have the opportunity to participate. They are offered master classes in traditional crafts, and everyone who is willing may demonstrate their artistic and musical abilities by singing a song or participating in games. The interactive character of the competition makes it attractive not only for the local community, but also for visitors.
